Retirement Confidence Drops

The percentage of working adults who say they are confident they’ll have enough money for a comfortable retirement is at its lowest in two decades – a stat providers will watch as they plan for the needs of retiring baby boomers.

Four in 10 workers have less than $10,000 saved, excluding their homes and benefits plans, according to a new report on retirement confidence by the Employee Benefit Research Institute. According to a Wall Street Journal report:

    • 13% said they felt very comfortable about having enough for a comfortable retirement (down from 18% last year)
    • 72% said they plan to find paid work to supplement their retirement living (up from 63% last year)
    • 89% said they plan to postpone their retirement to save more money
