Senior living communities are coming to the rescue of family members and other home-based caregivers who need to take some time for themselves.Short visits or “respite stays” at senior living communities are much more affordable than hiring a 24/7 home health aide, reports the USA Today, and both seniors and their caregivers are reaping the rewards. Rosalie Georgeadis of Arlington, Virginia, was at first skeptical about taking her 95-year-old mother to a Sunrise Senior Living community for a short stay. “My concern was that my mother would be stuck in this apartment, and no one would be paying attention,” Georgeadis told USA Today. “But when we arrived, they had a banner saying ‘Welcome, Lena Manos,’ brought her a plant and seated her with a different group of people every night” so she could make friends. The newspaper also mentions short-stay services provided by Emeritus Senior Living.
